How are your donations spent?

wannabeamzin is run from the UK entirely by volunteers so, apart from the small cost of hosting this website, there are no administration costs to the charity! This means that every single penny of your money goes directly to the people who benefit from it in Uganda.

Working together to increase efficiency

We have forged links with other NGOs working in Uganda to ensure we do not cross over and provide the same type of programmes in the same area. We also seek to share best practice about our experience and gain knowledge and ideas from other NGOs.

katy Oliver completes London Marathon!

In April 2010 Katy Oliver ran the London Marathon on behalf of wannabeamazin raising over £700.  Despite carrying injuries Katy managed a very impressive time of 3 hours 30 minutes – congratulations Katy!

Ploughmans lunch fundraiser

In the summer of 2009 Anita Benfield hosted a Ploughmans lunch fundraiser in her backgarden. It was a great day, with over 50 attendees, and the sun even managed to shine! A big thank you to Anita and all those who attended.

Holy Trinity School

Through the kind efforts of Anita Benfield and Liz Bowyer, the pupils at Holy Trinity School collected over 1000 books in 2009 to be used in our Resource Centre in Bajjo.

‘3 Peaks in 3 Days’ Challenge

In 2008, faced with an atrocious weather forecast, a small group of brave volunteers attempted to scale the 3 highest mountains in the UK to raise money for wannabeamazin.

The weekend has been fully documented in photos that can be found here: ‘3 Peaks in 3 Days’ Photos. And yes that really is someone wearing a gorilla outfit – Karl Hankinson wore a gorilla (some might say Yeti!) costume for the whole weekend, after receiving a very generous pledge from Bradley Young for every mountain that Karl climbed wearing the suit.

We would like to say a big thank you to:

  • Rick, Laurie, Frank, Amy, Al and Jez for an amazing weekend
  • Sandy Murray (for guiding us up Ben Nevis)
  • Dave Hankinson, Len Imber and Steve Brent (for dragging us up Scarfell Pike)
  • Bradley Young, Craig Holloway, Bonnie and Alan Rosenstein and Nuria Carter (for their generous donations)
  • And all our other donars

2008 London Marathon

In 2008, Neil Hankinson completed the London Marathon, raising over £1,000. If Neil has inspired you to run this year’s marathon why not run it for wannabeamazin!
